HIDA Preparedness Priorities Signed Into Law
The
Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness and Innovation Act (PAHPAI) was signed by
President Trump last night and became law. The bipartisan legislation was
passed by the Senate by voice vote on May 16th and passed by the
House of Representative by a vote of 401-17 earlier this month.
PAHPAI
is the third reauthorization of The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act
originally passed in 2006. This is the first version of the bill to include key
healthcare supply chain principles. These provisions were included in the final
package which will now support a more elastic healthcare supply chain, including:
- Communicating
regional health systems to the supply chain;
- Government
coordination with the commercial market on response, re-entry and
understanding manufacturing capacity;
- Assessing
ancillary product availability for medical countermeasures; and
- Identification
of product substitutes.
HIDA
will continue to work with Capitol Hill to ensure government programs which
support the healthcare supply chain are adequately funded.
