Alignment
“The first thing you do in any complex organization to drive alignment and making sure people are on the same board with people with different priorities and different job roles and functions is to make sure that everyone understands what you're trying to achieve.”
Awareness
“As my roles have changed within Henry Schein, each step of the way I've kept up the same intensity as I've had in the beginning of my career to try to make sure that I'm the best that I can and whatever it is that I'm doing... You really need to have that self-awareness to know what skills you need to focus on, which ones you need to really hone in on and which ones you need to back off on... Leadership is something that you're constantly adjusting and making sure that you bring your best self to the situation and adjusting to deliver what you need to do.”
Adaptability
“Early on in my career when I was working for [my dad] and I was facing a difficult situation with the team, one of the things he really wanted to impress upon me was the power of being flexible. And he gave me this analogy that at this day I still remember… He always said that the tree that survived the storm is the one that is the most flexible. So I always remember that when I feel like I'm, I'm fighting a little too much or maybe that balance in the room, whether it's a discussion or topic or whatever it is, when that balance feels a little off, I remember him always telling me to be flexible.”
Reflection
“Beginning of the day, give me 30 minutes, middle of the day before lunch, I still take lunch and at the end of the day so I can kind of recap, reset what what I process during the day and then kind of recalibrate what I need to deliver for the next day. And having that skill set and that discipline and allowing that time for me to just kind of pause, think, be intentional about my action and actions and making sure that follow through is done has really helped me in my leadership skills and keep me focused on what I have to do.”
Courage
“My leadership muscle that I'm still intentionally trying to strengthen, I would say is courage...to trust in your abilities and your knowledge and your decisions, and sometimes even just finding your voice, to be able to speak about a certain topic or make a certain decision and to be comfortable with it.”
