Medical Products Distributors Delivered A Record 51 Billion PPE Units in 2020

New PPE distribution figures show strong response to pandemic

Alexandria, VA, March 8, 2021 - New figures for 2020 PPE distribution show that medical products distributors responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by reliably delivering record levels of critical medical supplies to healthcare providers.

In 2020, Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) member companies distributed 51 billion units of PPE including:

  • 1200% more N95 respirators than 2019
  • 150% more face masks
  • 36% more gowns
  • 11% more gloves

The data is across all healthcare market segments.

“From the beginning of the pandemic, medical products distributors responded quickly and nimbly by moving as much PPE as possible to those who needed it most,” said Health Industry Distributors Association President & CEO Matthew J. Rowan. “HIDA member companies have shown they have the expertise and infrastructure to move them efficiently through the supply chain to meet unprecedented demand.”
